COIL/VE learning community application deadline extended through March 14

The Office of International Affairs, the Michael V. Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning and the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation Distance Education and Career Pathways announce a learning community designed to promote collaborative online international learning / virtual exchange (COIL/VE).

The COIL/VE learning community is intended to provide support for instructors as they design new global and intercultural student learning experiences in virtual modalities. These new programs, which may be course-based or project-based, should connect Ohio State students with their peers at home and abroad through collaborative learning and meaningful intercultural interactions in a virtual space.

Faculty and instructors from all colleges and campuses are welcome to apply. We particularly encourage applicants with experience developing education abroad programs, as the COIL/VE program will have a specific focus on study abroad alternatives, virtual exchange logistics and best practices for facilitating intercultural learning in online settings.

Participants will learn how to design an interculturally mediated collaborative project with international partners. They will also learn how to create appropriate intercultural learning outcomes, find resources for online learning and administer valid, reliable assessment measures.

Each participant will receive a grant of $1,500 to be used for course development, materials and professional development.

The learning community will meet during the month of May 2022, and the application deadline has been extended through Monday, Mar. 14.
