Ohio State is in the process of revising websites and program materials to accurately reflect compliance with the law. While this work occurs, language referencing protected class status or other activities prohibited by Ohio Senate Bill 1 may still appear in some places. However, all programs and activities are being administered in compliance with federal and state law.

Graduate Associate Teaching Award (GATA) Nominations open!

Nominations are open for the Graduate Associate Teaching Award (GATA), the highest university award for graduate student teaching at Ohio State. Any graduate student who is (or has been) teaching is eligible, and students can be nominated or self-nominate. Nominations are open until November 18, 2022, at 5pm, and award recipients receive $2,000 for their accomplishments and are honored at the Graduate School Awards Ceremony. However, the best reason for a graduate student to apply for the award is to complete their teaching portfolio, which is required to apply (applications are due by February 10th this year). A completed teaching portfolio both supports continued growth as an instructor and well positions the applicant to be prepared for an academic job search. This year the application process will also require that your teaching statement discuss how you incorporate diversity, inclusion, and equity into your teaching practices.

For more information on the application process, visit the graduate school GATA webpage. If you have any questions or would like to know how to get started on your teaching portfolio, nominees can attend an orientation session November 29th or contact the Drake Institute for more information, including requesting a consultation.
