The Drake Institute is committed to providing programs and services in support of all who teach and support teaching at Ohio State. Below, you can find a selection of educational development programs and services offered through the Drake Institute and made available to all who teach, each designed to support learning around effective, evidence-based instruction.

Instructional Consultations

The Drake Institute provides instructional consultations to all who teach at Ohio State. This free service connects you with a Drake Institute Instructional Consultant to discuss questions, ideas, concerns, challenges and opportunities around teaching in higher education in a safe and confidential space.

Course Design Support

The Drake Institute offers a variety of supports around course and curriculum design and development. Opportunities include multi-day Course Design Institute (CDI) experiences, unit-level curriculum coaching, customized departmental course and curriculum design workshops, and individual or small group consultations. Each service provides a clear, structured, literature-informed approach to building or redesigning a course or curriculum.

Teaching Endorsements Program

Teaching Endorsements are curated professional learning opportunities made available to all who teach at Ohio State through Drake Institute partnerships with a wide range of university offices and individual content experts. Many endorsements are available that support professional learning and development across several core teaching and learning competency areas. Using Feedback to Improve Teaching

Feedback on instruction, when collected and used appropriately, provides instructors valuable information on student needs and progress, while improving student engagement and motivation through increased reflection and sense of ownership of the learning experience. Drake Institute staff support the collection, analysis and response to feedback on instruction for all who teach at Ohio State.

Workshops and Presentations

The Drake Institute makes available to all who teach at Ohio State a variety of workshops, both virtual and in-person, throughout the academic year and in advance of each new term. Covering topics such as course design, assessment, active learning, educational technology, using feedback to improve teaching, inclusive teaching, and more, the programming calendar of events hosted by the Drake Institute is continuously expanding and developing in response to the changing needs of instructors in higher education.
