At The Drake Institute, we are dedicated to fostering teaching excellence through strategic partnerships and collaborative projects that enhance organizational development across The Ohio State University. The list below summarizes some of the collaborative projects we are actively working on:
Ongoing Collaborative Projects and Initiatives
Considerations of Generative Artificial Intelligence (Gen AI) for Teaching and Learning
We have convened collaborative teams of educational developers, faculty and staff to plan and offer support for teaching in light of Gen AI and the recent AI Fluency Initiative at Ohio State. Our efforts include monthly meetings with educational developers to discuss emerging Gen AI issues, a university-wide community of practice to plan workshops, and collaboratively authored teaching topics on the Teaching and Learning Resource Center website that address AI Considerations for Teaching and Learning, AI Teaching Strategies: Having Conversations with Students, AI Teaching Strategies: Transparent Assignment Design, and AI Teaching Strategies: Crafting Your GenAI Syllabus Statement. Visit Artificial Intelligence at Ohio State to learn even more about AI advancements in research and education.
Support of the New General Education (GE) Program at Ohio State
Our office led a faculty working group to develop tools and materials for assessing the Mathematical and Quantitative Reasoning (Data Analysis) Foundation area of the new General Education (GE) curriculum. We also have representation on the university’s GE Assessment Planning Committee, collaborate with university partners to provide workshops on designing and assessing e-portfolio projects, and serve as one of a large group of collaborators to support the redesign of the GE Launch course to integrate AI fluency.
Sustainability Course Design and Pedagogy at Ohio State
We are collaborating with the Sustainability Institute to provide university-wide professional learning opportunities in sustainability course design and pedagogy. Resources and programming to support the design of sustainability-related courses and assignments will be announced during spring Spring 2025.
Teaching New First-Year Students
We have collaborated with a diverse group of faculty and staff to develop a series of workshops focused on instructional strategies to support NFYS. This effort leveraged the expertise of representatives from eight Ohio State colleges, departments and university offices.
