Course coordinators invited to scientific teaching institute

The Michael V. Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning seeks a dynamic and motivated group of course coordinators and others responsible for planning and overseeing the instruction that occurs across multiple sections of large enrollment STEM courses (e.g., math, chemistry, physics).

Selected coordinators will be invited to participate in an incentivized, collaborative working group to be held during the Mobile Summer Institute on Scientific Teaching (MoSI).

This in-person institute begins at noon on Monday, May 16, runs through May 20. This engagement is intended to help participants develop a plan to introduce sustainable, impactful, evidence-based changes to instruction at critical points throughout a semester. These instructional enhancements will be applied across all sections and that can be adopted and implemented by all current and future course instructors.

Cash supplements of $1,500 will be provided to group participants successfully completing this working group engagement, which will require daily participation in MoSI, as well as submission of a final implementation and assessment plan for the instructional changes proposed.

An additional $1,000 incentive will be made available to participants who choose to further engage in additional development and planning work in collaboration with the Drake Institute during summer 2022 to create plans, materials and resources required for successful implementation and assessment of the redesigned instruction.

Space and funding are limited. Applications will be accepted through April 29 at 11:59 p.m. Approved applicants will be notified no later than the end of day on May 6.
