Applications are now being accepted for the August cohort of the College of Engineering’s Racial and Social Justice Community of Practice. The group’s goals are to transfer and translate knowledge of diversity, equity and inclusion, racial justice and social justice into the discipline; identify examples and other curricular materials to integrate into coursework; educate faculty on inclusive teaching practices; and work directly with faculty from each unit to integrate into required courses. The Department of Neuroscience has recently received approval for the Graduate Certificate in Neuroscience. Starting in autumn 2024, this fully-online, 15-credit-hour certificate will feature four core and six elective courses aimed at educating professional and pre-professional learners about in-depth aspects of contemporary neuroscience. Importantly, courses aim to train learners in skill sets that allow them to continue engaging in the ever-growing field of neuroscience long after they have completed the program. Schoon, PhD, recently participated in the inaugural offering of the Office of Academic Enrichment’s Course Transformation Learning Community Grant ($2500) in Spring 2023, where she received support for developing a syllabus for TURK3797 Virtual Education Abroad in Istanbul. The course was recently approved for the GE Theme in Citizenship for a Just and Diverse World, and this fall, Schoon will submit it for approval as a High Impact Education Away 4-credit course.
