The Drake Institute is pleased to announce our newest teaching endorsement, Evidence-Based Course Design for Online Courses. Created by Drake Institute staff, this fully self-paced, asynchronous learning experience is intended to support Ohio State educators who are designing or redesigning an online course.
The learning outcomes for this endorsement focus on:
- articulating course goals and aligned learning outcomes,
- creating opportunities for students to demonstrate achievement of learning outcomes,
- selecting course content to support student learning,
- evaluating pedagogical tools and teaching strategies, and
- crafting an inclusive and supportive online learning environment.
Comprised solely of Course Design for Online Courses (CDOC), which is delivered in CarmenCanvas, the endorsement programming allows participants to learn at their own pace as they are guided through the process of crafting a student-centered online course.
Over six modules, participants apply backward design and other evidence-based teaching strategies to create meaningful learning goals and outcomes; plan authentic assignments that promote academic integrity; outline a content structure that supports the learning they prioritize most; and select teaching strategies and technologies that will foster a welcoming and inclusive online learning space. Once finished, each participant will have created a comprehensive blueprint for developing an effective online course.
