Did you know the Michael V. Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning has recently expanded its services and programming? As of Autumn 2024, we have been ramping up offerings around teaching with technology, including support for teaching online, leveraging Ohio State’s learning technology toolset, integrating generative AI into your teaching, and more.

The Drake Institute's Spring 2025 programming lineup has been planned in collaboration with the Learning Systems team in the Office of Technology and Digital Innovation and other university partners. Explore upcoming learning opportunities below, including synchronous workshops, self-paced courses, and other on-demand offerings for Ohio State faculty, staff, and students.
Guidance for Teaching with GenAI
This semester, the Drake Institute continues to lead and coordinate a variety of efforts to help Ohio State educators effectively respond to and integrate generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) into teaching and learning.
Crafting Your GenAI Syllabus Statement
As the use of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) tools proliferates, it's increasingly important to clarify expectations around their uses for learning. A team of Ohio State educational developers has developed sample syllabus statements to help you communicate transparent expectations for GenAI use to your students. The statements can be customized for your specific needs and course activities.
AI-Infused Course Design Institute
How can generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) help you design courses that align with your learning goals and meet your students' needs? Join us for an AI-Infused Course Design Institute (CDI), where you will learn how to prompt GenAI to support course design tasks such as creating expected learning outcomes, designing assignments, and developing rubrics. There will be opportunities to reflect upon and critique GenAI responses.
Submit your CDI application by Thursday, January 23.
Spring 2025 Book Club - Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning
In Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning, José Antonio Bowen and C. Edward Watson present emerging research and ideas on the changes AI is creating in schools and the workplace, providing invaluable insights into what AI can accomplish in the classroom and beyond. The Teaching and Learning with GenAI community of practice is hosting a book club during which we will explore how to harness and manage AI as a powerful teaching tool.
The book club will meet virtually from 3 - 4 p.m. every other Tuesday between February 4 and April 15. You may register for all six sessions or for individual meetings that interest you.
