Apply to the Compassionate Pedagogy Community of Practice

The Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning is forming a Community of Practice for Ohio State educators to explore Compassionate Pedagogy. The community will focus on identifying evidence-based instructional strategies that promote the principles and practices of care and compassion in the classroom.

Compassionate Pedagogy is a human-centered approach to teaching that involves empathy, vulnerability, connection, care, and compassion when working with students inside and outside the classroom. The Compassionate Pedagogy Community of Practice will further define this concept as we study the literature to identify key components of the approach and explore how it has been articulated in various disciplines.

The goal will be to create a Compassionate Pedagogy Self-Assessment that instructors can use to evaluate their level of compassion in the classroom. This assessment will provide the opportunity to reflect on how they teach and encourage them to create an action plan based on the results.

The Compassionate Pedagogy Community of Practice will begin in January 2025 and continue meeting throughout spring semester. Any interested Ohio State faculty and instructors are encouraged to apply.

Submit your application by Wednesday, November 20.
