As of Autumn 2024, the Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures at Ohio State is very pleased to announce that it will now recognize students in Ohio who have earned the SoBL in high school. To receive a SoBL in high school students must show high proficiency in a world language, as well as fluency in English. All 50 states now offer the SoBL to high school students. The Center for Languages, Literatures and Cultures has been working on this project for the past three years and is delighted to be the first large university in Ohio to recognize the SoBL. Incoming students will qualify for a waiver of the lower language sequence (1101-1103) and will not be required to take a language placement test. In addition, students who receive the Spanish SoBL in Ohio high schools will also be qualified to receive 3 credit hours for Spanish 2202. Students who earned an Ohio Seal of Biliteracy within the last 18 months can send proof of the seal (certificate, transcript, diploma with seal stamp, or official test score report) to cllc@osu.edu to have their seal recognized. Students with a SoBL from any other U.S. state can send their official test score report to cllc@osu.edu for review. Out-of-state seals will only be recognized if test scores achieved meet Ohio SoBL requirements. Please contact cllc@osu.edu for more information.
