There are growing national discussions about the critical importance of providing high-quality, evidenced-based, inclusive undergraduate STEM educational experiences across various modes and locations of delivery. How we evaluate teaching is one lever for heightening attention to the quality of teaching. Grappling with better methods to evaluate teaching is a driver to engage faculty in re-envisioning approaches to high quality teaching and learning. Recent rapid transitions in teaching and learning in higher education, along with concerns about equity in students’ experiences and demands on faculty, create an opportunity to rethink the process for evaluating faculty work, including teaching.
The Michael V. Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning announces a new Community of Practice for graduate teaching associates of color that will meet biweekly throughout the spring semester.
Participants will strengthen inclusive practices in their teaching and connect as members of minoritized identities in the academy. Participants will engage research-based diversity, equity, inclusion and justice (DEIJ) pedagogical strategies while considering how the politics of inclusion and justice play a role in their graduate careers.

The Michael V. Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning is pleased to welcome Instructional Development Specialist, Laura Struve, Ph. D., who will join the team on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021.
Dr. Struve's considerable experience supporting the professional development and pedagogical skills of graduate students will allow her to contribute to the Drake Institute's mission to enhance and elevate the scholarship of professional teaching at The Ohio State University. She will lead the Drake Institute’s team of graduate consultants and work closely with graduate teaching associates to provide pedagogical support within a framework of collaboration and inclusivity.

New faculty who missed Day 2 of New Faculty Orientation in August, and those who joined us later in the year, are all invited to attend the morning sessions of the spring new faculty welcome from 9 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, 2021.
The teaching-focused morning will provide strategies for learning engagement and evidence-based teaching practices, an introduction to Ohio State students and early connections to the campus community.
