As the Teaching and Learning Engagement Librarian in the University Libraries, Jane Hammons’s work is dedicated to supporting teaching effectiveness and student learning, and the Drake Institute has played an important role in her efforts.

Her first major project at Ohio State was the development of a teaching endorsement, Teaching Information Literacy. This is a self-paced, online course intended to support instructors’ ability to strategically incorporate information literacy into courses. In 2020, in collaboration with the Drake Institute, she facilitated two Teaching Information Literacy Instructional Redesign Cohorts. In total, including cohort participants and self-paced participants, 27 faculty and staff members have completed Teaching Information Literacy.

In addition to Teaching Information Literacy, she also acts as a facilitator for a second Drake Institute endorsement, Meaningful Inquiry. This workshop series is intended to help participants incorporate pedagogical strategies to design meaningful and equitable research assignments. This workshop has been offered several times and more than 50 instructors have completed the program.
