Are you a graduate student preparing to teach this fall or an Ohio State educator who supports GTAs? Don’t miss out—registration is now open for the 2026 Graduate Teaching Orientation.
Graduate Teaching Orientation (GTO) is a week-long, annual event for graduate students serving in formal teaching roles at Ohio State. This foundational learning experience helps graduate instructors build the key knowledge and practical skills that prepare them for their teaching responsibilities, whether they will be teaching independently or serving as lab instructors, recitation leaders or graders.
Orientation is especially valuable for graduate students who are new to Ohio State or transitioning into a new instructional role or teaching context. Past participants have shared that GTO eased their concerns about teaching for the first time, helped them feel connected to Ohio State’s community of graduate instructors, and equipped them with concrete teaching strategies they could immediately apply in their roles.
Each year, GTO takes place the week before autumn semester classes begin. The 2026 orientation is scheduled for August 17– 21. Delivered in a hybrid format, this year's activities include a self-paced online course, one day of in-person programming on August 19, and a variety of Zoom workshop sessions that allow participants to tailor their learning to their interests.
The deadline to register for GTO is August 1.
