Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the way we learn, work, and think. Its integration into classrooms and workplaces is already underway, impacting and challenging ideas about teaching, learning, and assessment. In their book, Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to a New Era of Human Learning, José Antonio Bowen and C. Edward Watson present emerging research and ideas on the changes AI is creating in schools and the workplace, providing invaluable insights into what AI can accomplish in the classroom and beyond. The Teaching and Learning with GenAI community of practice is sponsoring a book club during which educators will explore how to harness and manage AI as a powerful teaching tool.

Educators will discuss:

  • discuss the basic principles and concepts of using Generative AI, how it works, and its various applications in teaching and learning
  • design instruction (courses, teaching and assessment methods) in light of AI
  • design academic activities to improve learners AI literacy 
  • describe the ethical, social, and cultural impacts of using AI in education

This event is part of the Drake Institute Spring 2025 Book Club. Participants may register for all six workshops or any of the workshops that align with their needs. All sessions will be from 3 p.m. - 4 p.m. on the following dates: 

February 4: Chapter 1: AI Basics & A New Era of Work & Chapter 2: A New Era of Work

February 18: Chapter 3: AI Literacy & Chapter 4: Reimagining Creativity

March 4: Chapter 5: AI-Assisted Faculty & Chapter 6: AI Cheating and Detection

March 18: Chapter 7: AI Policies & Chapter 8: Grading and (Re-)Defining Quality

April 1: Chapter 9: Feedback and Roleplaying with AI & Chapter 10: Designing Assignments and Assessments for Human Effort

April 15: Chapter 11: Writing and AI & Chapter 12: AI Assignments and Assessments
