Overview
Assessment in the Health Professions happens in unique learning contexts. In many cases, learning takes place in a clinical setting that includes learners at multiple levels as well as patients. Frequently, the assessors are healthcare providers who have not been trained in educational theories and practices. These healthcare providers require training in assessment that matches the unique practices found in their disciplines and learning environments. Individuals who complete the Assessment in the Health Professions Education endorsement will gain knowledge of the theories and practices underpinning assessment in the health professions and be able to create an assessments suitable for their teaching context.
Learning Outcomes
- Discuss backward design and competency based education as well as other fundamentals of assessments that are common to the health professions.
- Describe a variety of summative and formative assessment methods for measuring the knowledge, skills, and abilities of health professions learners.
- Find literature and accreditation standards for their own programs.
- Design evidence-informed assessments of learning.
Program Requirements
Participants will complete four required workshops, as well as three elective experiences.

The final teaching endorsement application will require you to upload the following:
- BuckeyeLearn transcript or certificates for each qualifying workshop or experience you attended.
- Confirmation of conference registration for each conference you attended (if applicable).
