Description

As today’s college students continue to combat loneliness and depression, terms like sense of belonging and having a growth mindset have become common phrases on college campuses. Also, in the past 8-10 years, there has been an increase in research on the importance of faculty-student relationships and supportive classroom cultures in education. This session will explore the Compassionate Pedagogy pedagogical approach by sharing conversations from a faculty Community of Practice, highlighting tools and resources that illustrate the approach, and encouraging participants to think about how to incorporate compassionate pedagogy into classrooms.

After this workshop participants will be able to:

  • define compassionate pedagogy and explain how it relates to other pedagogical models
  • describe the benefits of compassionate pedagogy
  • identify ways to incorporate compassionate pedagogy into teaching and learning on their own courses
