Health Professions Education (HPE) is a competency based system with learners in a variety of contexts across a preclinical to clinical practice continuum. In many cases, educators must design assessments that span the continuum. In the first session of this two-part interactive series, participants will learn about a variety of assessment strategies common in HPE how to align assessment strategies with learning goals and best practices for considering which strategies to choose. During the second session participant will learn about programmatic assessment including how to combine strategies to promote learning across the continuum.
After this workshop participants will be able to:
- discuss the efficacy of various HPE assessment strategies
- choose assessment strategies by synthesizing the concepts of competencies, EPAs, and milestones
- define programmatic assessment
- describe the benefits of programmatic assessment
- discuss strategies for implementing programmatic assessment
