The CDI is a 4-day event that runs from 1:00 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. on the following dates: May 19 & 22, 26 & 29. You must apply to participate: Applications for this event will close two weeks before the CDI begins.
Evidence-based Instruction
Do you want to explore using artificial intelligence (AI) to help you design courses that are aligned with your learning goals and meet the needs of your students? If so, join us for an AI Infused Course Design Institute. During this institute, you will learn how to prompt generative AI to help you with course design tasks such as generating expected learning objectives, creating assignments, and developing rubrics. There will also be opportunities to reflect on and critique GenAI responses.
Goal
During a Course Design Institute CDI, participants gain an understanding of how to design a course based on a foundation of goals and outcomes; begin the actual work of course planning, working with a community of peers; and leave with the basic structure for a course and the beginnings of course materials such as a syllabus, assignment drafts, assessment tools and a course outline.
Learning Outcomes
Participants will be able to:
- Consider their context and evidence-informed strategies such as universal design for learning and transparency in learning and teaching for promoting an effective learning environment
- Articulate and align course goals and learning outcomes for a given course.
- Scaffold appropriate, effective and efficient assessment methods for their chosen learning outcomes.
- Evaluate teaching methods, including active learning strategies, that will be most appropriate for the context, goals, and outcomes of their course.
- Devise evaluation assessment methods to determine the success of their designed course.
- Use AI as a thought partner in each step of the course design process.
Program Requirements
Requirements include the following:
- Register for and be accepted to participate in a CDI (potential participants may be added to a waitlist if there are a high number of registrants)
- Attend all sessions of the CDI (4 sessions of 3.5 hours each)
- Complete activities due before each session (1-2 hours each)
