Dr. Gillespie is a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Nursing with clinical expertise in maternal-infant health and research expertise in clinical and translational immunobiology. Her program of research focuses on optimizing maternal-infant health by developing novel, immune-based methods to predict risk for and prevent complications of pregnancy and postpartum. Her long-term goal is to transform the way that we care for mothers and babies by providing clinicians with the tools necessary to offer targeted preventive interventions. In line with her expertise, Dr. Gillespie’s teaching focuses on the biological basis of health and disease as it relates to immunobiology (and beyond) among mothers and infants (and beyond). This includes advising and mentoring interdisciplinary students in the biological sciences, namely maternal-infant research. Finally, Dr. Gillespie’s service has broadly focused on advancing nursing science and innovation and, specifically, advancing the science of her specialty areas of expertise.
