Jieun Hur is the recipient of the 2021 Outstanding Engineering Educator Awards by the Ohio Society of Professional Engineers (OSPE) for her contribution to teaching, research, professional service and outreach to the community.

Dr. Hur received her MS and PhD degrees from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA. She is a registered Professional Engineer in California, U.S. and a registered Professional Structural Engineer in South Korea. She worked as a structural engineer for seven years and has led and participated in various projects and collaborated with individuals from multiple disciplines. She received the Lumley Interdisciplinary Research Award from the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University (OSU) in 2020. Dr. Hur has a wide spectrum of practical civil engineering knowledge and experience in structural planning, analysis, design, and diagnostics, and risk assessment, and she has brought her knowledge and experience into more than ten different courses in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geodetic Engineering at OSU.

Throughout her academic career at OSU, Dr. Hur has improved the learning experience of students in and out of the classroom for their success. She actively participated in and benefited from various programs at Drake Institute at OSU such as workshops, consultations, new course design, instructional redesign, and research and implementation grant program. She is active in building equitable and inclusive learning environments for students and participating in STEM outreach activities as an educator.
