Dr. Jennifer Mitzman is an emergency medicine physician and educator. After earning her medical doctorate at the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine, she completed emergency medicine residency at University Hospitals in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Mitzman then pursued Pediatric Emergency Medicine fellowship at Wake Forest University Brenner Children's Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC. She is one of only a few hundred physicians nationally duel board certified in both general emergency medicine and pediatric emergency medicine.  After training, Dr. Mitzman moved to Columbus, Ohio where she is an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine and Pediatrics at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. Dr. Mitzman combined her love of education and medicine pursuing medical education research endeavors including publishing a number of curricular and educational innovations in pediatric emergency medicine. Her curricular work has been adopted in part or whole by numerous educational programs around the county. She is the lead pediatric educator for The Ohio State Emergency Medicine residency program and as the Associate Fellowship Director for the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship at Nationwide Children's Hospital, one of the largest in the country. As part of these roles, she has completely revamped pediatric didactics and simulation for the residents and developed a fellow coaching program and increasing the interaction at didactic conferences for both programs using adult learning theory. In addition to her roles in graduate medical education, Dr. Mitzman serves as an educational consultant to the Ohio Department of Health with content expertise in obstetric emergencies and health disparities in maternal morbidity and mortality. She is also actively involved in the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine, the Council of Residency Directors and the Association of Pediatric Program Directors. Dr. Mitzman is also passionate about positively changing the culture of medicine, specifically in regard to mentoring women physicians and the sponsorship and mentorship of a representative and sustainable workforce of physicians.
