IR Short Course: Team Based Learning

In this Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning short course Leanne Coyne, Ph.D., from the California Health Sciences University will share insights about implementing Team Based Learning (TBL). Coyne has extensive experience in developing TBL in large lecture settings, as well as in a professional school environment. She and Ohio State experts will provide guidance for planning and implementing TBL modules.

Ohio State instructors can complete this short course asynchronously in Carmen at their own pace, with four optional weekly synchronous discussion in zoom. The course opens on Nov. 8.

Participants should expect approximately four to six hours of work involved in each of the four steps of the course for a total of approximately 16 to 24 hours of professional learning.

After this workshop participants will be able to develop and implement a TBL module including:

  • Preparing effective pre-session learning materials.
  • Assessing readiness to learn.
  • Facilitating and enganging application activity.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of TBL including individual and group learning. 

This short course is can serve as an IR Pathway so participants will also be able to complete a IR portfolio about the implementation of TBL.
