March 24, 2023 | 12:00pm to 1:00pm
CarmenZoom

Rubric creation helps clarify learning goals for instructors and creates a transparent and clear grading scheme for students. Using rubrics for grading makes grading more consistent and faster. In this session, we will draw on the research literature to explore the benefits to both students and instructors of creating and using grading rubrics and gain some practice in creating and evaluating rubrics.

After this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Define what a rubric is, different types of rubrics, and the components of rubrics.
  • Describe benefits of using rubrics for students, instructors, and graders.
  • Identify qualities of effective and ineffective rubrics.
  • Apply rubric design principles to specific courses/assignments.
