Assessment For Learning Workshop Series: Designing and Implementing Rubrics

The value of grading rubrics ranges from making scoring more accurate, unbiased and consistent to inspiring students to improve their performance in your class. Lisa Cravens-Brown, Associate Vice Chair of Instruction, Department of Psychology, will outline these benefits and the qualities of a great rubric. Designing and Implementing Rubrics will help instructors apply rubric design principles to specific courses and assignments.

After this workshop participants will be able to: 

• define what a rubric is, different types of rubrics, and the components of rubrics 
• describe the benefits of using rubrics for students, instructors, and graders 
• identify qualities of effective and ineffective rubrics 
• apply rubric design principles to specific courses/assignments
