Instructors interested in methods for challenging student roles in the classroom and increasing the active learning that happens in their course are invited to join a session to explore the evidence-based approach known as jigsaw. Staff will break down the strategy to simple steps that make it easy to implement the strategy effectively. A jigsaw class offers every student an opportunity to play an essential part in their learning experience and support their colleagues’ learning at the same time.

Participants are encouraged to register for all six workshops or choose to register solely for the workshops that align with their needs. Workshop dates are as follows:

September 6th: An Introduction to Evidence-Based Active Learning

September 28th: Deep Dive into Active Learning Implementation Practice

October 11th: Evidence-Based Active Learning: Peer Instruction

October 26th: Evidence-Based Active Learning: Minute Paper

November 8th: Evidence-Based Active Learning: Jigsaw

November 30th: Evidence-Based Active Learning: Gallery Walk

After this workshop participants will be able to:

  • describe the evidence-based strategy of jigsaw
  • plan implementation of jigsaw in their own context
  • anticipate and overcome barriers to effective use of jigsaw
  • identify appropriate assessments to measure the effectiveness of the jigsaw strategy
