Appointments will be available between Jan. 25 and Feb. 10, 2023.
Note: If you have specific questions about your nominations, the award selection process, or the portfolio structure (including questions about formatting and letters of recommendation), please contact Laura Pearce at the Graduate School at Grad-SchoolFellowships@osu.edu.
Due to the large number of nominees, we have worked with the Graduate School to provide a consistent structure for working with you on your portfolio.
Teaching Portfolios
Before requesting a consultation, we highly suggest visiting our website on Developing a Teaching Portfolio for guidance on writing specific components of a portfolio. You will find reflection tools, writing tips, and examples from previous GATA winners and other instructors on campus.
The Consultation Process
Prior to consultations, you must email a draft version of portfolio materials 24 hours in advance of your scheduled appointment. In addition, please include your response to the following in the email body or as an attachment.
- What changes have you made on this draft?
- How well do you think those changes work?
- What specific concerns do you still have about these materials?
- How much more time and effort are you willing to put in to your materials at this point?
Your appointment confirmation will include a reminder to send in the answers to the above questions.
If you are revising materials from a previous nomination, please include answers to the 4 questions above, along with your previously submitted portfolio and any changes you may have made.
You will be prompted to send your materials to drakeinstitute@osu.edu once your appointment has been scheduled. Please use the subject line “GATA portfolio draft.”
All synchronous consultations will be held via Zoom. Consult the appointment signup for details. Please be prompt for your appointment.
Making a Synchronous Consultation Appointment
Please read the consultation process section before signing up for an appointment using our online sign-up system.
Thirty-minute synchronous consultations with Drake staff members will be available via Zoom. You may sign up for one 30-minute meeting at a time.
If there are absolutely no times left on the schedule that fit your availability or if Zoom does not work for you, please send an email to drakeinstitute@osu.edu indicating such. We will work with you to explore if there are other possible options.
Making an Asynchronous Consultation Appointment
Opportunities for asynchronous consultations via email are limited to individuals who have had an synchronous Zoom consultation. Email drakeinstitute@osu.edu to schedule this follow up (subject line “GATA Asynchronous Consultation Request”). These consultations are also limited to 30 minutes during which consultants provide feedback and answer questions about your draft.
Follow-up Appointments
Once you’ve had an initial appointment with the Drake Institute, we are also able to review redrafts of your materials. You may facilitate this via another synchronous Zoom consultation (same rules apply as above) and use the online sign up system to make another appointment.
Alternatively, you may conduct this appointment via email, phone or chat . You should email drakeinstitute@osu.edu to request this type of follow-up. Please indicate in this email with whom you consulted previously if you would like to meet again with that individual. These consultations will be limited in length to 30 minutes. Please send in new answers to the 4 questions outlined above with your materials (subject line “GATA portfolio draft").
