In early January, the Institute for Teaching and Learning will offer a mini-Course Design Institute (CDI) to support instructors seeking to redesign (or design) a course for the spring semester OR for submission as a General Education course.

A CDI is an intensive experience in which Ohio State instructors are introduced to a “backward design” process, as well as strategies to encourage significant learning. Participants receive the tools and strategies necessary to build or rebuild effective, student-centered courses. Most important, the mini-CDI creates the time and space to concentrate on the work itself in the company of colleagues and educational developers.

This mini-CDI comprises four synchronous sessions and guided design work outside of the sessions using course materials and activities in Carmen. Participants and facilitators will meet from 1 to 4 p.m. via Zoom Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, Jan. 4, 5 and 6. A break before the final session will allow for thoughtful refinements, then a final session will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 12.

This mini-CDI is a pathway to Instructional Redesign, and eligible participants will also leave the experience with all the information they need (and much of the content) to complete an IR portfolio.
