IR Writing Workshop – Section 4: Assessment

October 8, 2021 | 9:30am to 10:45am
4156 Smith Lab or CarmenZoom

The Drake Institute for Teaching and Learning (ITL) Instructional Redesign (IR) program awards eligible Ohio State instructors (0.75 FTE and above) with $1,150 to implement, assess and document evidence-based approaches to teaching and learning. Participants in the program document their experience in the form of an IR portfolio. While a template and review/scoring rubric for IR portfolios are available, the effort to compile a complete and successful portfolio can serve as a barrier to program completion. Therefore, the ITL is excited to offer writing workshops on each section of the IR portfolio to provide clear guidance and facilitate more efficient and effective writing.

In this workshop, we will discuss the requirements for section 4 of the IR portfolio: Assessment. Participants in this workshop can expect to leave the session with either a working draft of section 4 or outline of what should be included in section 4 of the portfolio, as determined by each participant’s current stage of involvement in the IR program. This workshop is open to anyone interested in the ITL’s Instructional Redesign program. You can check eligibility requirements for the program by visiting our webpage dedicated to IR. Please reach out to us should you have any questions about this or any other programming by e-mailing drakeinstitute@osu.edu.

After this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Describe the expectations for a successful IR portfolio.
  • Identify portfolio needs regarding effective assessment.
  • Apply the assessment section of the IR rubric to one or more example portfolios.
  • Effectively analyze IR-related data and report findings to support conclusions regarding impacts of the IR effort on student performance and/or the student experience.
