GTA TOOLKIT -- Inclusive Teaching, Part 2: Planning Productive Conflict

Hosted by:

January 28, 2020 | 9:00am to 10:30am
Brutus Buckeye Room

Asking students to challenge preconceived notions, take a position, or support an argument with evidence makes them stronger critical thinkers. However, when that engagement requires them to move beyond their own experiences, the strong emotions that arise can actually deepen learning. In the second of this three-part series, participants will discuss how Universal Design principles can be used to best lead discussions on course content that may be challenging for students. Participants will leave with tools to assist in setting goals for discussions, articulating expectations, and anticipating conflicts in class. This session may be applied to completion of the requirements for a UITL Inclusive Teaching endorsement.

This session is designed for graduate teaching assistants.
