The value of grading rubrics ranges from making scoring more accurate, unbiased and consistent to inspiring students to improve their performance in your class. Lisa Cravens-Brown, associate vice chair of instruction, Department of Psychology, will outline these benefits and the qualities of a great rubric during an Assessment for Learning Workshop Series event on Feb. 24. Designing and Implementing Rubrics will help instructors apply rubric design principles to specific course and assignments.

After this workshop participants will be able to:

  • Define what a rubric is, different types of rubrics, and the components of rubrics
  • Describe benefits of using rubrics for students, instructors, and graders
  • Identify qualities of effective and ineffective rubrics
  • Apply rubric design principles to specific courses/assignments
